Now THIS is the best low carb dessert I’ve ever had! This is the low carb chocolate mousse recipe that I’ve been raving about on my social media pages. Whenever I start a LC cycle, I usually start craving for something sweet after about 48 hours. That craving is easily put to rest by this absolutely tasty dessert!
Just a warning, though. You can definitely serve this to your non LC friends, but this recipe is FULL of fat so while this will help you lose massive amounts of fat because you’re in ketosis, your non fat adapted friends will likely pack it on!
- Unsalted butter – Half a stick (2oz)
- Philadelphia cream cheese – Half a stick (2oz)
- Whipped Heavy Cream (find sugar free!) – 3oz
- Unsweetened cocoa powder – 1 tbsp
- Stevia (You can use others, but listen to this and then decide) – 1 tbsp
- Sugar-free dark chocolate – Sprinkle to decorate (optional)
I absolutely loved this recipe. I started slow, because I was very nervous about the amount of cream cheese in this recipe. After about two spoonfuls, I definitely sped up and this was gone in no time! It taste absolutely incredible. It really makes me wonder if we’re doing treats all wrong – why are we eating sugar-loaded snacks when high-fat snacks are SOO much more tasty and better for you (if you’re already ketogenic, that is)?

How to make the Low Carb Chocolate Mousse1
Leave butter and cream cheese at room temperature until soft
This is very important. I made this recipe twice and the first time I did it, I ignored this step. There’s a lot of mixing involved so if you don’t let it get soft, you’ll get tired very quickly.2
Mix butter with sweetener until completely blended
The key to all the mixing here is to make sure that everything turns into the same color. So if you see some sugar grains anywhere in the bowl, be sure to get that in the bulk of your mix. And keep mixing!
While you can mix everything all at once, I recommended doing it in parts like this just so you can be sure to mix everything properly. You don’t want to inconsistent tastes, here.3
Add cream cheese – Mix until completely blended
Same as before. Mix until everything is the same color. You’re probably going to get a little tired right about here. Keep with it! It’s well worth all the work.4
Add unsweetened cocoa powder and mix until completely blended
You’ll notice that after you add the cocoa powder, this will really begin to smell like chocolate mousse. Before this phase, I was worried that it would be too much like cream cheese, but the cocoa powder is pretty strong.5
Add whipped heavy cream and mix well
You can add a lot of whipped heavy cream. This is what will give your low carb chocolate mousse that mousse like texture. Don’t add it sparingly – keep adding whipped cream until the entire mixture is light. Whatever you do, don’t go light on the heavy cream.6
Spoon into bowls or cups and serve
That’s it! Now you can enjoy this awesome dessert while you diet. I would recommend refrigerating this before serving, but it’s not necessary. I haven’t tried to store this for too long, but I know it can sit in the refrigerator for two days safely.
