Thanks for stopping by – here’s Watch Me Burn Week 2! If you missed it last week, here’s a link to the introduction of my weight loss journey.
How’s The Burning?
So this week I’m down 2.9 pounds. I have to say I wasn’t that excited by it mostly because I have high expectations. I’ve done low carb cycles before where I’ve lost 4 pounds a week for a month straight, but not anymore it seems. Then again, I was working out twice a day – taking that into account 2.9 is pretty good.
Here’s the chart!
Thursday was my first and ONLY day of keto flu! My order of MCT oil came in that evening and I immediately added it to a cup of decaf coffee and heavy cream. The next morning I woke up feeling like a million bucks. I made a post about MCT oil and I highly suggest reading it if you’re going to start a low carb diet.
There’s a rise in weight on Monday that I’m sure is due to some suspect hot wings I ate at a lunch party. Carbs can be very sneaky – have to be careful!
What I did This Week
My breakfast during the week was modified a bit. I added one tablespoon of MCT and subtracted about half the heavy cream. For lunch every day this week, I ate a low carb sausage gravy with biscuits! It was super easy to make and full flavor! One thing to point out though:
I bought this in kind of a rush without inspecting it closely. This is a reduced fat product. Most things that are reduced fat have added sugar to help with taste. Had I known this was reduced fat I never would’ve bought it. As a result, I’m pretty sure it slowed my fat loss a bit.
A couple days in, I found the original pork version of this and made enough Carbquik biscuits and gravy for 3 days of lunch. My wife, who is not on the diet also loves this. Now, I need to make enough for two!
My dinners were mostly chicken and Steak. I did have an awesome slab of BBQ ribs sauced with Guy’s BBQ Sauce. I’m going to experiment a bit with this sauce in the next few weeks. I’m planning to make wings with this sauce to see if my non low carb friends notice 🙂
Just like I said last week, Carbquick makes yet another appearance on the featured items list! I already ran out of my first purchase mostly because I failed several dessert experiments! I used it heavily again this week as a way to thicken the sausage gravy and biscuits. I cannot say it enough – this stuff has been a revelation for me. I used to crave burgers and fries around this point but not anymore. I know that I can easily replace those foods with a low carb version.
I like and use it so much I bought two this time!
I feel like a broken record saying this, but MCT oil is a must have. Everyone who has tried a low carb diet knows the keto flu can be a real bummer. This week was confirmation that MCT oil is the fast lane to coping. A tablespoon the day I started with the symptoms has stopped the flu right in its tracks.
Here’s a link to my favorite brand. If you click the link and buy it from Amazon, I will get a affiliate fee, but that’s not really why I keep recommending it.
I want you to FLOURISH in this diet and I’m 100% convinced that MCT is a critical piece to doing that. You can definitely find a cheaper version of it, but I recommend this for many reasons. I’ll write a full review of it where I’ll explain what that is. Short version – NuMedica did their homework and use only the RIGHT type of MCT.
I owe you a few recipes! This week I’m going to post two recipes using Carbquik. You’ll see how amazingly simple it is to use (unlike a lot of flour replacement products). More importantly, these recipes are major weapons to fight the carb urge and stay on the path.
Thanks for watching me burn! I really appreciate you taking the time to read this. I would love to hear what you think! This is a lot of exclamation points! Please leave a comment and let me know about your low carb journey. And don’t forget to subscribe so you can get an email when I post again 🙂
